MV vs Foothill

MV VS FOOTHILL  11/4/11

Conditions:  Cold, clear for last regular season game at MV for 2011
 
Pre Game:  Senior Night is a tradition at MV with senior Mom’s sporting their son’s letterman jacket.  Frosh, JV and Varsity Players and Cheer teams line the hash marks as the seniors and parents walk to the 50 for a handshake, gift and rose from the coaches.  What a wonderful time to remember 4 years of memories and a celebration of how much these seniors have learned and matured. 
 
1st Quarter:  Opening kick off to Martinez and then Lockie worked the ball down field and in one play avoids defense and runs a 50 yard scramble.  The field goal attempt was unsuccessful but the MV defense and good plays by Maruyama, Shirreffs, Turner, Stanton and Turcotte led to a punt.  In the 2nd offensive series there were some beautiful plays including a 40 yd pass to Scritchfield.  End of the Quarter and no score. 
 
2nd Quarter:  Mustangs continue the drive with a Melin run down the sidelines but an interception at goal line led to a TD and MV behind 0-7.  The next offensive series ended with a 43 yard Mcfarland punt and good field position.  MV D held Foothill to a turnover on downs.  MV worked down the field to another interception..  End of half 0-7. 
 
Halftime:  MV band and cheer teams perform for their final home game. 
 
3rd Quarter:  Offense on both teams ending on a punt and battling for better field position.  MV’s McFarland wins field position battle with a Lockie to Zamora TD 6-7 followed by a botched snap for PAT and incomplete pass by McFarland to end zone.  Defense by Martinez, Turcotte, Landman, 
 
4th Quarter:  MV 12-7  Steam rising from players breath on the field.  Shirreffs down 3x with strong tackles.  Millner picks up a fumble recovery and Chang, Chang, Chang  moves the ball down the field.  McFarland punt to the 19.  Defense of Zamora, Stanton and linemen hold the line.  2nd and 17 and Millner drops Foothill QB behind line of scrimmage.   16 seconds left 4th and 15.  Knee down.  The Mustangs have earned a playoff berth with their final game at home this season.
