-Mustangs Fight Back Against San Ramon But Come p Short 28-14

November 10, 2011 SRHS Field:  The JV Mustangs were unable to continue their winning streak with their season finale against the Wolves, spotting SR a 28 point lead before coming back with a strong surge with two fourth quarter touchdowns.

The Mustangs nearly tied up the score at one TD apiece in the First Quarter, after another Nikita Zamora to John Kaiser 45 yard bomb set the Mustangs up in business deep in the red zone.  But with a turnover on the next play, the Wolves regained the momentum until the fourth quarter Mustang rally.

The JVs scored their first points after an even longer Nikita to John bomb of 77 yards took the ball down to the SR one, with the QB keeper driving it in for the score. With MV trailing for much of the game, the Mustangs were unable to rely on their ruining game, but Rydian Searls had a great 36 yard run for a TD on a draw play.  The passing game was hindered by a cold night and tight SR pass defense, but the patterns and passes were pretty much on the mark, and the pass protection very good.  We’ll close the gaps with more practice on the Varsity next year!

On defense, despite giving up four scores, the Mustangs came up with several big stops, a First Quarter sack by Jack Brickey was followed by a deflected pass by Rydian to turn the ball over on downs.  On SRs next series, Ryan Chen had a sack and Kevin Woo had a big tackle for loss to again stymie the Wolves.  Erik Messendiek had an interception for the defense.  The Mustangs made a number of good plays on defense, but SR had a number of key third down conversions.  Here’s another place to close the gaps to become better and keep improving.

Disappointing yes to finish the season on a loss, but the JV Mustangs showed tremendous improvement in the second half of the season, something to build on for sure.  Lets hope the boys keep up the spirit and train hard for what should be a great season next year as Varsity Mustangs!
