JV falls to Cal
October 7, 2011 MVHS Field: Cal High JVs got the better of the Mustang Junior Varsity Gridders 38-7. Controlling the ball on the ground, but also making a few big pass plays and taking advantage of Mustang turnovers, California put up a big 21-0 lead by half time.
Some off the highlights for the Mustangs: Some good passing connections between Nikita Zamora to John Kaiser and Erik Mensendiek, including a touchdown towards the game’s end. Looks like that Tight End connection is going well for the last two games. Newcomer Rydian Searles and the O-line got the ground game going, but the Mustangs were unable to push it through to the next level on the ground.
On defense, the highlight was a gimme that ball back! tackle/strip/recvovery gem by Tyler Burkland that led to the MV TD, after the Grizzlies had intercepted the last Mustang drive. Other defensive gems included a big tackle for loss by Ryan Chen and a fourth down stop by Jack Brickey to halt the Grizzlies in the second quarter.
There’s a lot of football to be played boys, lets pick it up and beat Livermore!
