September 2, 2011 MVHS Field: The horse has always been an unlucky omen for Trojans, and in classical form, the Castro Valley Trojans saw the Junior Mustangs burn the defenses of Troy time and again , in a game that wasn’t as close as the score would indicate. Nikita Zamora threw four TDs; three to Ben Wensley and one to Erik Mensendiek, while Alex Bertolero broke a tackle on a nice 12 yard TD run and Jack Brickey rumbled in easily for another goal line TD. A great punt return for a TD by Jurae Dilworth was unfortunately called back by penalty.

Both the rushing attack, led by Alex Bertolero, and the passing attack, led by Zamora, were keyed by dominating play by the offensive line, opening huge holes and holding back the Castro Valley pass rush while the Mustang passing attack shredded the Castro Valley secondary with a variety of patterns. The front line dominance was also there for the Mustang defense, which shut down the Trojan running game with the exception of two big plays, throughout the entire game, allowing only a meaningless score at the end after amassing a 40-0 lead. Big hits for loss were made by Ryan Chen and Cody Dalton. But the defensive front seven in general set up camp on the Castro Valley side of the scrimmage line. The Mustang pass defense was equally stingy. All in all a great start to the season for the Junior Varsity Mustangs, great game boys!
