Head Coach Keith Philapil

Head Coach Keith Philapil

Head Coach Keith Philapil is in his 6th season at Monte Vista High School. He previously coached at his Alma Mater, American High School in Fremont for 4 seasons. During Coach Philapil’s tenure at Monte Vista, he has been the Freshman Head Coach for three years and the JV coach for three seasons. Coach Philapil has high expectations for his team on and off the football field. Our team goals for this season are to have a team GPA of over 3.0, develop work ethics that will make these boys successful outside of football and to play our very best every Friday in September, October and November. He claims there are few things he loves more than football, but his wife, Rochelle, and two daughters, Kaya and Karissa, are three of them. One thing the team does not know about Coach Philapil: He played at Monte Vista High School before his players were born! During his senior year at American High School, his team played a pre-season scrimmage game against the 1987 Monte Vista Team.

Dana Hemmingsen

Coach Dana Hemmingsen

Coach Hemmingsen is the JV Defensive Coordinator and considers it an honor and privilege to work with the football players at Monte Vista. To compete in our league is a real challenge for both coaches and players. It requires hard work, self-discipline, dedication and the desire to be the best that we can be. Coach Hemmingsen would like to see each player walk away from the season with a great football experience, becoming both a better player and person. He believes football provides a great opportunity to learn life-long lessons, and the experience of working as a team to overcome adversity.

One thing the team does not know about Coach Hemmingsen: That his dad played football in Minnesota with a leather helmet that did not have a face mask.

Coach Sakai Greer

Coach Sakai Greer

This will be Coach Greer’s 3rd year coaching at Monte Vista—the previous two years, he coached the Freshman Team. He has been married for a year now to his high school sweetheart. He is going to graduate school to become a teacher. He believes that football gives a young man a sense of discipline and structure in their life. Learning to play on a team with others teaches kids to learn with and adapt to differences within other people. He loves the kids that he works with and he will continue to coach as long as possible.

Aaron Johnson

Coach Aaron Johnson

This marks Coach Johnson’s second year coaching at Monte Vista. Coach Johnson is a graduate of Ygnacio Valley High School and Purdue University. He was a T-Birds Defense Coordinator for five years prior to stepping in to coach the JV Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs. Coach Johnson’s daughter Alexyss is in the 7th grade. One thing the team does not know about Coach Johnson: He loves football so much he still plays with his San Francisco pals on the weekends.

Joe McGovern

Coach Joe McGovern

This will be Coach McGovern’s second year coaching at MV and first with the JV team. He has been involved with the Monte Vista football program as a parent, and 12th man committee member for the last four years. He believes this is the best high school program in the state. Those that participate, find the valuable life lessons to prepare these young men for more than football. His number one philosophy: You don’t make your mark during the season; you make it during the off season. One thing the team does not know about Coach McGovern: Favorite all time athlete – Jerry Rice
